Spanish American War US Navy M1889 Cartridge Box USN

Very nice Spanish American War - late Indian War period US Navy Cartridge Box for the .38 caliber Colt Navy revolver, made from 1889 to 1903. The box features a USN embossed cover with an interior wood block that is bored to hold 6 loose cartridges and 2 packs. The latch tab and belt loops are present, but as you can see, the brass snap that should be present on the tab is missing.
From a historical standpoint, it's worthy to note that Teddy Roosevelt carried one of these that had been salvaged from the USS Maine. A once common effect that could have seen service by soldiers in all branches, these have become scarce enough to be reproduced. From example featured here is 100% original, and from an important period in American history.
This item remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. The brass snap button that should be present on the latch tab is missing. Please see the pictures for more detail.
